What is Wellness?

Wellness is more than just disease prevention. Wellness is a state of “FLOW”, a feeling of energy, enthusiasm, confidence, clarity, purpose, fulfilment, courage, empathy and contentment. A state in which people perform at their best.

TheNational Wellness Institute in Winsconsin describes wellness as “an active process of becoming aware of and making choices toward a more successful existence”.

What are the barriers to Wellness?

Behavioural Barriers to wellness include: Stress, anxiety, fatigue, burnout, irritability, tension, lack of sleep, breakdown in communication, conflict, lack of confidence, and smoking, poor health.

How can these barriers be overcome?

The first step is to develop awareness and insight into the barriers that are holding you back. We have identified 4 key areas of awareness that lead to a state of wellbeing or “FLOW” and have developed a Wellness Wheel to help you identify those areas you would like to improve on.

  1. Physical Wellbeing – A healthy body that is flexible, mobile, pain free and energetic
  2. Emotional Wellbeing – Ability to stay calm, manage stress, manage negative emotions and avoid harmful habits
  3. Spiritual Wellbeing – Identify a purpose, with meaning and fulfilment and
  4. Social Wellbeing – Healthy Relationships at work, home and within the community
