9 months after giving birth, I was still 9 kgs overweight. I was very despondent about my weight and my general health. I heard about Yasmin from a friend of mine and decided to join her class. Within a month of having joined Yasmin I have noticed a marked difference in my strength and suppleness. Fibrous Dysplasia is a bone condition I was bone with; which restricted movement in my legs and spine. Yasmin ’s expertise was able to diagnose my condition devise a programme comprising breathing, muscle release and strengthening exercises to develop core strength, improve my posture and induce a general sense of wellbeing. When I first went to Yasmin I expected a Pilates schedule. Far from it, deriving from various disciplines she developed a method that she customizes for each of the special needs of her clients. Through gentle but firm persuasion she was able to instill in me a belief in myself. I felt muscles I didn’t realize I had. Gradually I was able to perform routines I had never thought possible considering my particular physical condition. My mobility and posture has improved, I stand taller. I learnt what it means to work on my core efficiency by letting go. I didn’t know that by just breathing correctly it could energise me and release tension and with that reducing my lower back pain significantly. Yasmin has the knowledge and the expertise to effect the improvements that will correct years of incorrect breathing and unhealthy postural practice. In addition she is able to inculcate a belief in oneself, a rare gift indeed.

I was at your Body Sensing workshop day at Renee’s studio on the 15th Aug – just some feedback from that, lots of my clients have really enjoyed the new cues and focus – especially the equestrians, as it’s immediately applicable for them in their riding. They are also [on the whole] more subtley body-aware than some of the others, so have been able to appropriate it quite quickly.

My training with Yasmin allows me to experience and explore movement from an internal place, not limited to external observation but more importantly directed towards the internal connections; making a connection between a mental “image” of a movement and its physical articulation. There is no right or wrong way in Yasmin’s work, she is able to help facilitate and communicate ways in which one can achieve a specific movement whether it is release or strength based that’s suits ones own body the best without strain, stress or force. After a session with Yasmin I walk out feeling incredibly relaxed, light on my feet, all my joints lubricated and my muscles lengthened!

Yasmin’s special method of teaching concentrates on very gentle movements enhanced by intense breathing technique considering the actual condition of body and mind at all times. She gives her clients tremendous challenge to explore and observe “Body-Mind-Awareness. Even though I had already regular private Pilates lessons since 1999, I personally only learned from Yasmin to listen to my body and mind very carefully and to accept that each day body and mind will feel different asking for different movements, breathing and thoughts. I am a 79 year old woman. My problems are bad scoliosis, causing pressure of spinal nerves and osteoporosis. I went to Yasmin for Pilates training for approximately 2 months. During the time I was with her, I found she had an excellent knowledge of anatomy and bone structure, and of the spine and spinal nerves. Her style of training is like nothing I’ve ever experienced in my 4 previous years of training regularly with the aid of personal trainers. She makes you more aware of your own body, the way it currently functions and the way it can and should function to achieve maximum benefit – a style that I had NEVER experienced before.
