Body Sensing Yoga

Yoga today is often associated with physical fitness yet the philosophy and tradition goes back centuries and is based on a complete way of conscious living with an emphasis of working with the mind/body/spiritual connection.

The postures or Asanas are designed to either stimulate or calm the mind and body maintaining balance or homeostasis of the body’s sympathetic (stimulating) and parasympathetic (calming) nervous system.

What is Body Sensing Yoga?
In our over stimulated technological environments and stressful lifestyles our body’s sympathetic nervous system is often in overdrive and needs to restore balance.

Body Sensing Yoga is based on the restorative principles of Yin Yoga, a softer style of Hatha Yoga derived from Taoism or Chinese Philosophy of Yin and Yang. Yin is associated with passiveness, softness and quietness, the opposite of Yang which is associated with stimulation, heat and activity. Body Sensing Yoga incorporates these principles with Somatic or sensory learning to restore balance, develop a deeper sense of self awareness and easier flow of movement.

This style of Yoga is ideal for those new to Yoga, or those looking for the meditative calmer gentler side to Yoga.
