Why does stress affect us physically?
The limbic system is an area of the brain that deals with emotions and is also the primary area of the brain that “interprets stress”. Our brain is wired to automatically trigger a “fight or flight” response when we are in danger. The problem is that it triggers a similar response when we feel angry, stressed, vulnerable under pressure or threatened, automatically telling our autonomic system to release a rush of hormones including noradrenalin and cortisol.
Body Sensing STR is a body centred approach to stress management and trauma recovery releasing deep chronic tension that occurs during traumatic or stressful events. In this defensive state the body has the innate ability to restore balance through “tremoring” or “shaking”. Body Sensing STR taps into the body’s innate ability using a series of simple exercises to trigger the body’s innate shaking/tremoring mechanism to restore balance or homeostasis of the mind and body. The technique is easy to learn and is immediately effective and empowering regardless of the level of trauma or stress or the need to talk about or remember specific events.
